MTA Plans Closure of East Entrance to Lexington Market Metro Station  

Interior and exterior improvements should take about one year    

BALTIMORE, MD (May 6, 2008) On Monday, May 12, MTA will close the East entrance of the Lexington Market Metro Station at Lexington Street  to begin construction of important customer safety improvements and exterior and interior alterations. The project is scheduled to last about a year. The exterior improvements will include a new canopy over the escalators and bus stop that will provide customers with better weather protection.

Inside, MTA will enhance the appearance of the station area with a thorough cleaning, and change the illumination to more energy efficient lighting.  Customers are encouraged to walk one block north on Eutaw Street to the Saratoga Street entrance while these improvements are under construction.    

“These enhancements are part of our ongoing commitment to improve bus and rail service and facilities in Maryland,” said MTA Administrator Paul J. Wiedefeld. “The Lexington Market Station upgrades are part of a larger project that includes the refurbishment and improvement of all fourteen Metro Subway stations.”
