Local Bus General Information

A PICTURE OF A MTA CUSTOMER IN A WHEELCHAIR BOARDING THE BUS.

The MTA operates more than 50 local Bus lines throughout Central Maryland.  Many Bus lines connect with Light Rail, Metro Subway and MARC Train service.  When riding MTA Bus service, pay the fare as you board.  Exact fare is required.  Customers may then ask the operator where to get off or watch/listen for the appropriate stop.  Touch the yellow strip on the interior of the bus to alert the operator that you want to get off at the next stop. Smoking, eating, drinking, and playing radios or audio devices without earphones are not permitted by law on MTA buses.

All of our Buses are equipped with wheelchair lifts and/or kneeling capability.  There are seats in the front of each our buses, that are designated as priority seats for seniors and people with disabilities The MTA requires that these seats be made available  for our disabled and senior customers upon request. Look for the international accessibility symbol on the front and side of the bus. Wheelchair tie-downs are available on all buses. In addition, we include stop announcements and electronic information boards on our service.

Service Animals
MTA welcomes service animals on all our service.
