& Service Update
An Amber Service indicator - please read the update for this transportation service Expect delays & overcrowding due to shortage of Light Rail cars. Service bewteen Penn Station and Mt. Royal stops being served by Shuttle Buses. [more]
SHORTAGE OF LIGHT RAIL CARS NECESSITATES THE FOLLOWING SERVICE ADJUSTMENTS:

Due to unanticipated inspections and repairs, MTA is experiencing a shortage of Light Rail trains.

Beginning Monday, May 12 until further notice, trains will operate every 15 minutes between Hunt Valley and Linthicum stops. South of Linthicum, trains will alternate between Cromwell Station/Glen Burnie and BWI Airport. In addition to Light Rail service, MTA will provide shuttle bus service between Cromwell Station, Ferndale and North Linthicum Light Rail stops. Shuttle bus service will operate every 30 minutes on weekdays from approximately 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM and from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

Click [here] for the revised Light Rail schedule and the Shuttle Bus schedules.

Thank you for your patience as we work to restore normal Light Rail operations. The current shortage of trains stems from an incident on April 23, 2008 in which a steel wheel experienced a failure while a train was traveling to a maintenance facility. MTA immediately conducted an inspection of the entire fleet and removed trains from service that had the same level of wear as the wheel that failed.

A new safety procedure has been put in place that requires wheels to be maintained more frequently and replaced sooner than the original manufacturer requires. The speed with which trains can be inspected and repaired is limited by the capacity of MTA's maintenance facility and the availability of trained personnel. Our highest priority is safe, reliable service, and we are working as quickly as possible to complete repairs and place trains back in service.

Also, until further notice, Light Rail service is temporarily suspended between the Penn Station and University of Baltimore/ Mt. Royal stops. A shuttle bus is available on weekdays.

Click [here] for the weekday Shuttle Bus schedule.

Please board the bus at the following locations:

Penn Station: From station entrance, turn left and board at bus stop on St. Paul Street.

University of Baltimore / Mt. Royal St: Board shuttle bus adjacent to the Light Rail stop.
